Architectural Mouldings for Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants
Facades, lobbies, dining rooms and guest floors, consistent across every property.
In hospitality, architecture is part of the guest experience. The arrival facade, the lobby ceiling and the dining room all tell guests what kind of place they've walked into, often before anyone has said hello. This page is for architects, interior designers, brand and development teams, and general contractors working on hotels, resorts, restaurants and bars, from new builds to renovations of operating properties.
At a glance: Mouldex Composites makes lightweight architectural mouldings for hospitality projects: cement-coated foam exterior window trim, cornices, door surrounds and column wraps, plus interior plaster crown mouldings, one-piece LED light coves, coffered ceiling beams and factory-finished faux wood beams. Profiles are CNC-cut from digital files, so the same detail can be repeated across every floor and every property in a brand.

What Hospitality Projects Need from Mouldings
- A strong first impression: the porte-cochère, the entrance and the lobby carry the brand.
- Consistency at scale: the same profile around hundreds of guest-room windows, and across sister properties.
- Fast installation: new builds run to tight opening dates, and renovations happen around guests and operating schedules.
- Low weight: heavy ornament adds structural cost on new builds and can be impractical on existing ceilings and facades.
- Durability: high-traffic interiors and exposed exteriors, including coastal and cold climates.
- Code compliance: fire-rated options where the assembly requires them.

Exteriors: the Arrival and the Facade
A hotel's facade does two jobs: it gives the building a recognisable identity from the street, and it gives guests a clear, welcoming entrance. Mouldings help with both.
- Entrance hierarchy: use the heaviest detail at the main entrance and porte-cochère, with door surrounds, pilasters or column wraps, and a cornice or entablature above.
- Rhythm on the guest-room floors: one window trim and sill profile repeated on every floor keeps a large facade orderly and simplifies estimating and installation.
- A finished top: a cornice or parapet cap gives the building a strong silhouette.
- Resorts and coastal sites: Mouldex exterior mouldings have a moisture-inert core and a cementitious coating, and work with stucco and EIFS, the common resort wall systems.
Interiors: Lobbies, Restaurants and Guest Floors
Lobbies and ballrooms
Coffered ceilings and light coves turn a large, flat ceiling into a feature. Mouldex one-piece coffered beams arrive with every decorative detail built in, so there's no framing, no drywall boxes and no layering of separate trims on site. Coffers can be planned around pot lights, sprinklers and diffusers, and circle, curved and octagonal layouts can be made with custom curved or angled beams. See 8 coffered ceiling layouts for inspiration.
Restaurants and bars
Faux wood beams add warmth to dining rooms, bars and covered patios without the weight of solid timber. They're high-density polyurethane, factory-primed, stained to your chosen colour and UV-protected, and can be colour-matched across every location in a restaurant group. For a more formal dining room, plaster crown mouldings and a coffered ceiling create a classic look.
Guest floors and suites
Plaster crown mouldings in corridors and suites give rooms a finished edge, and the same profile can be specified for every property in a brand.
Brand Consistency Across Properties
Because Mouldex profiles are CNC-cut from digital files, a custom profile developed for one property can be reproduced identically for the next. That makes it practical to build a signature detail into a brand standard, from the entrance surround to the lobby ceiling, and to replace a damaged length years later with an exact match.
Renovations of Operating Properties
Many hospitality projects are renovations that have to happen around guests. Lightweight mouldings help: they're easier to move through occupied buildings, can go up over existing ceilings and walls without reframing in many cases, and don't need cranes on the exterior. Every Mouldex moulding is primed and painted after installation, so colours can be matched to the design scheme on site.
Specification Notes
- Exterior mouldings: cement-coated foam: an EPS core with a polymer-modified cementitious coating reinforced with fiberglass mesh; moisture-inert; near-zero joint expansion; works with stucco, EIFS, brick, stone veneer and siding.
- Interior mouldings: EPS foam core with an authentic plaster finish.
- Faux wood beams: high-density polyurethane, factory-finished and UV-protected; the only Mouldex product that arrives finished.
- Fire: Fire-rated options are available on request with a Class A fire rating (flame spread 25, smoke developed 110) that helps meet ASTM E-84 and UL 263. Confirm the required rating with your code consultant.
- Finishing: all mouldings are primed and painted after installation.
- Column wraps: decorative and non-load-bearing; a structural post always carries the load.
- Lead times: project orders typically 7 to 10 days depending on profile and quantity; custom profiles typically 7 to 10 business days from design approval.
- Documentation: CAD details and product data on request.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the same moulding profile be used across several hotel properties?
Yes. Profiles are CNC-cut from digital files, so a standard or custom profile can be reproduced identically for every property in a brand, and for replacements later.
Can coffered ceilings work with sprinklers and lighting in a hotel lobby?
Yes. Plan the beam grid around pot lights, sprinklers and diffusers before ordering, so every fixture sits in the centre of a coffer. LED light coves can add indirect lighting around the coffers.
Are faux wood beams suitable for restaurants and patios?
Yes. They're factory-finished and UV-protected, designed for interior and exterior use, and can be colour-matched across multiple locations. Tell us about the exposure and we'll confirm the specification.
Can mouldings be installed in an operating hotel?
In many cases, yes. Lightweight mouldings are easier to handle in occupied buildings and often go up over existing surfaces without reframing. Coordinate the work zones and paint schedule with operations.
Is there a minimum order?
Project orders have a 15-piece minimum. Sample kits have no minimum, and free sample kits ship within 24 hours.
