Structural Specifications

Mouldex pilasters are decorative elements designed for surface application over wall sheathing, stucco, masonry, or siding. They are not rated for vertical structural load. Mechanical fixings are recommended for secure attachment — fasteners must penetrate supporting framing or blocking behind the sheathing layer. Adhesive-only installation is suitable for lighter profiles on clean, sound substrates; combination adhesive-plus-mechanical fixing is recommended for larger profiles or high-wind zones.

Weather Performance

Exterior pilasters withstand challenging weather conditions. The EPS core does not absorb moisture significantly, and the cementitious shell prevents water infiltration. Freeze-thaw cycling is resisted by the embedded mesh, which distributes stress and prevents surface cracking. Shell flexibility allows bending over a ¼″ mandrel without cracking.

Installation Engineering

Installation requires standard tools for cutting pilasters to length and fitting around substrate geometry. Adhesives must be compatible with the substrate — elastomeric sealants accommodate small differential movements between pilaster shell and wall. On concrete or masonry substrates, stucco/EIFS, or steel stud framing with sheathing, temporary fasteners may be used during the adhesive curing process.

How do Mouldex pilasters integrate with modern building envelope systems?
