Designers and builders have long wanted a cladding that captures the warmth of natural wood without the constant upkeep, weather damage and heavy installation that come with real timber. StoCast Wood delivers that look with the performance of a modern facade system.
What Is StoCast Wood?
StoCast Wood is a thin, lightweight, flexible resin-cast plank with an authentic wood grain appearance, made by Sto for the decoration and protection of facades, soffits, interior walls and ceilings. The planks are made with acrylic polymers and mineral fillers. Each one is 6 ft long and 6 in wide, packed 25 to a carton (about 75 sq ft).
There are 45 wood grain patterns to choose from, and with 18 different plank patterns, a finished wall has a natural, non-repeating look.
Colour and Finish
Planks arrive in a light beige base and are top coated on site, typically with two coats of StoColor Wood Stain, StoTique with Sto Clear Coat Sealer, or another StoColor coating. The colour is chosen for each project from a wide range, and the Sto top coat makes the planks UV resistant.
Why Choose It Over Real Wood
- No rot or warping: made with acrylic polymers rather than timber, it isn't prone to the rot and warping that affect natural wood. It is durable and freeze/thaw resistant, and in lab testing the system showed no mould growth at 90 days and no deleterious effects after 60 freeze/thaw cycles.
- Lightweight: less dead load on the wall than wood or fiber cement cladding, with faster, more cost-effective installation.
- Flexible: the planks bend to follow curved walls, down to a 6 in radius.
- Adhesive installation: planks are set in StoCast Wood Adhesive instead of nailed, which eliminates nail holes, pull-through at nails and punctures in the wall's air and moisture barrier.
- Easy to cut: planks cut with a utility knife, with minimal dust.
- Low upkeep: the Environmental Product Declaration models no maintenance energy or materials during use, over a 40-year reference service life.
Where It Goes
StoCast Wood is installed over Sto wall systems and over prepared concrete, concrete block and stucco walls, ceilings and soffits, or prepared interior drywall. It isn't used on horizontal or below-grade surfaces, on roofs, as lap siding, or in areas that need high scrub resistance or repeated chemical cleaning, such as showers or food preparation areas. It is intended for installation by professional contractors.
Fire and Environmental Data
The StoCast Wood assembly (adhesive, plank and top coat) has a flame spread of 0 and smoke developed of 0 under ASTM E84, a Class A building material that qualifies for use as an interior finish. As a finish component of Sto wall systems and code-compliant concrete, masonry and stucco walls, it meets the requirements for use on noncombustible construction. It also has a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), and the product is low VOC (under 50 g/L). It's backed by a Sto limited warranty; ask us for terms.
