What to know before you choose Fieldstone

Weight and wall type
At 10 to 12 lb per sq ft, this stone veneer weighs a fraction of full-bed stone, so it goes on without structural footings, lintels or wall ties. Outside, it is typically installed over plywood, and also over existing surfaces such as sound brick and other masonry, concrete or stucco; inside, over metal lath and a scratch coat.

Mortar joints
Fieldstone is set in mortar with visible joints that frame each irregular stone and give the wall its hand-laid character. An experienced mason gives the best result.

Weather and durability
StoneRox is a durable material made for freeze-thaw climates, and it is weather-tight when properly installed as part of a well-detailed wall. Like any exterior cladding, its colour may soften slightly with years of weathering; sealing is not required, and optional sealing every 1 to 2 years keeps the day-one look.

Colour
It comes in six colours, from the light greys of Ash and Everest to the warm tones of Walnut and Sahara. Choose a blend that works with the roof, trim and stucco, and see it in person before you order.

Fieldstone can be combined on one wall with Cobblestone and Ledge Stone for a custom look. Each is sold separately, so choose your ratio when you order.

Measure
Measure the square footage of the flat wall area, and the outside corners in linear feet.

Count the corners
1 linear ft of corner pieces covers about 3/4 sq ft of wall.

Add a waste allowance
Allow 5 to 10% for cutting and fitting.

What is the difference between fieldstone and flagstone?
Fieldstone describes rounded, irregular stones, laid on walls in a random pattern. Flagstone is flat, split slabs, usually used for paving and patios. StoneRox Fieldstone gives walls the fieldstone look.
Can fieldstone veneer go on interior walls?
Yes. Fieldstone works on interior feature walls, accent walls and fireplace surrounds (outside the firebox), installed over metal lath and a scratch coat.
Can Fieldstone go over existing brick or stucco?
Yes, over sound brick and other masonry, concrete or stucco. The wall must be structurally sound and free of paint or debris, with any damage repaired first. Follow StoneRox's installation guide and local building code.
